In LTL, “moved” and “moved as planned” are not the same thing. A shipment can hit its delivery date and still wreck your margin and your inbox. It gets there, but along the way you pick up reclasses, reweighs, surprise accessorials, damage claims, and a customer now asking hard questions.

Or that same shipment can arrive on time, correctly charged, intact, and uneventful. Customer service never hears about it, accounting pays exactly what it quoted, and your customer sees you as dependable.

That second reality is what it means for an LTL load to be “moved as planned.” Charges match the quote, there are no reclass or reweigh surprises, accessorials are expected, there are no avoidable delays, and the freight shows up intact. The difference you feel is whether it moves as planned. That’s why a disciplined LTL shipping checklist is the backbone of smart LTL freight preparation.

Packaging that looks fine on your floor often isn’t built to survive that reality. Shrink‑wrapped but unbanded product can shift when re-forked. Overhanging cartons with no corner protection get crushed when something is stacked on top. Uncrated machinery with exposed components and no blocking or bracing is vulnerable to every mis-aimed fork.

Accounting doesn’t see any of it until the carrier invoice lands with a stack of accessorials. The load was delivered on time, but the margin vanished.
